About
Built in Singapore, for Southeast Asia.
Opal is a risk intelligence layer for the SMEs that carry SEA's economy but sit outside modern insurance.
Plaid solved a data-portability problem for consumer finance. Opal solves the same shape of problem for SME insurance — but the data isn't in a bank, it's spread across POS, accounting, HR, and operational systems, and it's never been reduced to something an owner can act on in a single afternoon.
We think a small business shouldn't need a broker to know what it's exposed to. We think a score should move when the business moves. We think the right cover should appear at the moment the gap opens — not six months later at claim time.
Founder: Henry Sam Marfo. Home: Singapore. Corporate champion: Zurich Insurance. Prize pool: SGD 100K + a live Zurich pilot. Deadline: 14 August 2026, 23:59 SGT.
Merch — first drop
The Opal mark was built for hoodies before it was built for slides.
One-color, screenprint-ready, works at 8mm or 800mm. First run of heavyweight cream hoodies and organic espresso tees ships to early SMEs, insurer partners, and design friends.
